Already building for the future

The scenery on the north and south ends of Königsallee is still dominated by cranes and excavators working behind construction fences. After completion, the Königsallee will have two new and attractive entrances.

Kö Blick
A new shop and office building is now being built where guests once
enjoyed the view of the Kö as they sat in the rooftop café. With its elegantlycurved
facade, it has been transformed into the new KÖ BLICK of the
Königsallee’s distinctive south-end entrance. The structure is being built
according to the plans of Düsseldorf architect Christoph Ingenhoven and
includes eight floors and has a total floor space of approximately 7,000
square meters. The first renters are scheduled to move into the building in
the spring of 2011.

KÖ BOGEN
With the extension of the subway network, the above-ground tram track
at Jan Wellem Platz is no longer necessary. This opens up the possibility
for restructuring the entire area on the avenue’s north end.
The KÖ BOGEN
functions as an historical link to the traditional royal garden. Town planning
is including a new area with largely-structured green spaces and areas.

The new construction is being implemented according to the plans of star
architect Daniel Libeskind. One distinguishing characteristic of the design is
the curved facade of glass and local limestone, which is broken off in diagonal
patterns facing the water. These sections will be landscaped, carrying on
the tradition of the royal garden.
